Year Two is in full swing! I got in my room last Tuesday and I've had 7 days to get into my new room, move my belongings, and set it up for Open House, which was... two hours ago, at the time I wrote this post yesterday. Apparently I never posted it!
Woo! That's basically how I've felt over the past week. So much to do! In the past 7 days, I have moved everything out of my kindergarten room (which took five trips!), removed the old work from the walls, arranged the furniture, sorted the reading books, cleared out the cabinet, cleaned the messy sink area, put new work on the walls, created my hallway bulletin board, wrote out names on cubbies, hooks, and nametags, and prepared for open house.
Thankfully, I've also had a lot of help. A friend who helped me pull staple after staple out of the wall and actually, the cabinet. Another friend who helped me put over 15 feet of bulletin board paper over the blue residue above the windows. Coworkers who let me look around their rooms for inspiration. First grade teachers who came in my room and gave me advice, be it on how to layout my room, how to hang my posters up, what kids I had in my class, how to handle open house. A part time assistant, who today alone, made the bulletin board in the hallway, hung names by their backpack cubbies, and cut out so many feet of laminated posters, including all 67 pieces of my new calendar. And this afternoon, when the Dean of Students came by 45 minutes before we started, and asked if she could do anything. Yes! She's the one who taped their name tags to the tables and put folders at each desk. I'm so thankful I'm a part of such a generous team!
